July 11, 2004. First confirmed mention of John “JS” Dirr on the internet. He’s a member of a band who plays around the UCLA campus. John is 21 with a 3 year old, a murdered brother, a fixation on hockey and a love for Tom Delonge from Blink 182. (Emily Dirr is fourteen years old, and boy can you tell if you look at the list of “the band’s” recordings).
On that page, “the band” adds this disclaimer to the bottom of their pages.
May 12, 2006. “JS” joins Yahoo! Answers. First questions asked are about cities in Canada, baby name choices, and a request for opinions about a song “he” wrote about the death of his brother. Baby “Eli” is about to be born and of course every Canadian cop slash hockey bad boy slash womanizer needs the internet’s advice on what to call his son.
October 3, 2006. Cliff Elias “Eli” Dirr is born. He has a Wilms Tumor and JS immediately turns to Yahoo! Answers to find out more information.
Eli is JS’ seventh child, joining Tim, 5, Kyle, 4, Dougie, 3, Katie, 17 months and Markus and Mattias, nearly 1 year old twins, All of the children’s mothers are not active in their lives, and Eli’s mother soon follows suit. :
(Emily is 16 years old).
Around this time, a CaringBridge site is started for Eli’s cancer journey. It is updated often, is extremely picture heavy and includes tidbits about the development of all the children.
Eli’s cancer goes into remission.
2008: Around this same time, JS meets and marries Dana. She’s a sweet trauma surgeon who has been told she can’t have children.
Miraculously, she almost immediately becomes pregnant with twins. They are born over three months early, but they survive and thrive. The twins, JS’ second set, are his eighth and ninth children. He is 25 years old.
December of 2008: Eli, in remission for two years, is diagnosed with a secondary cancer, AML Leukemia. The whole family joins in solidarity with their warrior. Updates on Eli’s CaringBridge page, JS’ Xanga journal and a blog on his MySpace are updated frequently.
2009: Eli’s spleen was removed. He undergoes chemotherapy. At the end of the year, Eli is again in remission.
2010: Unfortunately, Eli relapses again, and now he has an untyped mass in his liver.
The family begins sending out bracelets to raise awareness of Eli’s cancer fight.
Eli eventually goes into remission from his Leukemia but is diagnosed with a Stage III Hepatoblastoma.
Dana gives birth to JS’ tenth child, a baby boy named Jack.
2011: Eli goes into remission from the Hepatoblastoma. Dana becomes pregnant again.
January of 2012: JS suffers from heart problems and nearly dies in the hospital. The family keeps over a thousand Facebook fans update on his progress. He eventually recovers.
March 2012: Eli again relapses.
April of 2012: JS and two of his children are involved in a car accident. They are hit by a semi and the driver was both drunk and texting.
May of 2012: Dana officially adopts many of JS’ children from his many previous relationships.
Friday, May 11th. Dana posts her last Facebook update.
The rest of the story is summarized here.
thank you good job Taryn, interesting to see it all laid out in order…I am the one that first brought this to light on MWOP’s on Mother’sDay tho, I was slightly suspicious for awhile, just did not want to believe that anyone could stoop this low to scam so many people…
I am grateful for all of the hard work you have done…
It’s funny, all the bad scams I’ve seen involve the child having very severe stuff that is neatly impossible to survive, like Bianca Keena would have grand mal seizures several times a day and cardiac arrests nearly daily, no child could survive so much chemotherapy as Eli supposedly did.
And then she died. The end 🙂
It’s like you knew what I was looking for.
I’ve got a lot of time on my hands lately, maybe I’ll go through a many of the fake profiles as I can and figure out which ones popped up when.
Hahahaha! Oh those album covers. I don’t think she owned a CD until she was much older. I could have designed those at 9, lol.. Although I didn’t know what vas deferens was that young. Oh and the album names! And the continued “tributes” on EVERY ALBUM. No. Just no. No one does that unless it’s a live concert. Maybe one tribute on one latter album. Or a re-recorded greatest his albums. I’m surprised she didn’t research that more. And the song names….wow. She was soo mentally screwed at such a young age and her illness just progressed and progressed AND PROGRESSED.. How did no one in her real life catch on? Frightening, terrifying, of what worse she could turn in to and how much more awful things would have been if, she hadn’t gotten caught.
What were the names of the songs? I never got to see that site.
Thanks for typing all that up. I didn’t realize that she was supposedly the adoptive mother and that JS had those kids in previous relationships. Who knew that there would be so many mothers willing to give up custody?
And all at the same time, as well.
What really gets me is that he/she was giving advice to people who’s children had actually been diagnosed with cancer!
Well… It was actual medical advice. Just some Cookie-cutter “oh this is how I get through it,” stuff.
Wasn’t, I meant
It’s shocking that everything is laid out so neatly. Probably one of the flaws is that Eli has “relapsed” too many time & of course the stolen pictures is a big give away.
“VAS DEFERENS’ SITE! DON’T STEAL FROM US OR WE WILL KICK YOUR ASS!” – Ha…just like she stole pictures from others? Hypocrite…
The Factfinder12 people did a follow up story. Apparently the woman received an apology letter and money to make more blankets. So, is she hoping this just all goes away, because I’m sorry, this woman should not be allowed near a computer!
I am curious if the apology letter was signed “Emily”. Can you post a link to the article?
Looks like they were going to talk more about the letter tonight.

The letter looks like a ten year old wrote it.
It bothers me that Emily is still obviously lying. She still ‘claims’ to be a med student. As an actual med student, I can guaruntee that there is a 99.9% chance that she is NOT and never was. She frequently gets medical facts wrong, can’t spell, and is most likely too young. To be accepted to medical school, you would need a bachelor’s degree at least and usually at least one year of research experience. If she is lying about this, then she is lying about other things….. like telling her parents…..who want her to see a counsilor?!?! Emily- it is counselor or if you are Canadian (which we know you are not) it is a ‘counsellor’. A med student would know that at least.
I thought she said she started to go to med school but had to withdraw?
She did say this, and her email address was associated with a med school, so I assume she was a student there at some point.
So then she’s not CURRENTLY claiming to be a med student?
Taryn, I am pretty sure that the update you posted as her last was not her last. I think she posted one more on the Dana Dirr Facebook page, and that one was even more emotionally gut-wrenching. She talked about how lucky she was, how much she was looking forward to Mother’s Day with all her babies home, how one of her sons had already given her his gift, and how she was a little bummed that she was probably going to have to work a shift that night but nothing was going to ruin her Mother’s Day. Of course, she “died” on the way to that shift, so it was really chilling to read that before we knew. Does anyone have the Dana Dirr Facebook page preserved from that night? The update was only up for about a day before she locked down the accounts, so the archive/cache sites might not have gotten that last update.
Michael, that very well may be! I’ll look at what I have again.
I vaguely remember it. Anyone have a screen shot?
I had a screenshot of it but deleted it. I should have sent it to you first but didn’t think of it. What is typed above was the pretty much what it said.
I saw that too – the very last sentence in that last post said something to the effect of ” I love them all more than I love life itself ” , I remember because I jokingly told my husband ( as I was sobbing ) that maybe it was back luck to say that and she should have said ” I love them very much or something “
michael is right. chilling is the perfect word for it. sickening. I hope that somebody has it saved!!
This makes me sick. I have watched my bestfriend spend endless nights inpatient, fly across the US for treatment, and fight daily for the last (almost) 5 years as her son fights for his life aganist Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. To think a sick, sick person can not only come up with this story but to live it for so long is mind boggling. And to talk to parents and families who have children fighting is just so wrong.
I see I left a comment Under the pace maker one! The truck hitting them was when I started thinking REALLY???
